In the case of rum made from molasses, molasses is mixed with water and fermented. A high alcohol content of approx. 70% is the result of this distillate. Molasses is a honey-like, dark-brown sugar syrup that is a by-product of sugar production from sugar cane, sugar beets and also from sweet sorghum.
