Almost all distilleries that produce molasses rum buy the molasses instead of growing and processing their own sugar cane. If sugar cane is cultivated on your own plantations, molasses is usually not obtained from it, but the sugar cane juice is distilled directly, as is the case with Rhum Agricole.
